Wicked – a must see play for all ages

SPOILER ALERT

If you haven’t see Wicked the Musical and don’t want a sneak peak about the story line. STOP reading now and GO get your tickets to see musical before they are all gone!  I’m so happy that I was able to see this musical and it’s gained a spot as one of my top 5 favorites along with The Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, Chicago and Greese.

Ok, now that they’re gone, here’s the scoop……

Wicked is the story behind the story of the Wizard of Oz, set to music composed by Stephen Schwartz who is also known for other hit musicals such as Godspell and Pippin.  The theme of the play centers around the idea that things aren’t always as they seem and it turns out that Elphaba (The Wicked Witch of the West) isn’t  that wicked after all.

Wicked has all the makings of a perfect musical; great story line, music that you leave the theater humming for weeks and actresses that you relate so closely to that you would want to invite to dinner so you could get to know them better.

Chandra Le Schwartz and Jackie Burns, the women who play the roles of Glenda and Elphaba bring the characters to life right off the pages of the book the play is based on by Gergory Maguire.  Glenda has the perfect level of perkiness and her love for herself is hysterical and we see Elphaba’s good side and her struggle growing up being put down because she’s different than others, but in the end not letting it get her down.

The story does have a few twists and turns that I’ll let you discover for yourself, but if you haven’t seen it, I highly recommend you do.

Check out a few of my favorite songs from Wicked….

You can see Wicked at the Cadillac Palace Theatre from now through January 23, 2011.  Look for Tickets

Thanks to Broadway in Chicago for providing my Kenmore Live Studio team members and me with tickets to the open night performance.  We are hosting a Cooking Combat on Sunday, December 19th featuring the actresses who play Glinda and Elphaba (cool, right) and BWIC wanted everyone involved with the KLS event to get a firsthand look at what Wicked was all about.
